BC COMPETITORS SHINE AT THE 40TH WORLDSKILLS COMPETITION

The 40th WorldSkills Competition in Calgary, Alberta has officially drawn to a close. More than 900 Competitors in 45 skills have come together from 51 Member countries/regions to compete against each other and vie for the gold medals and awards.

Meet BC's World Skills Competitors

From September 1st to 7th, 2009, Calgary, Alberta will host over 900 competitors from 48 countries at the 40th WorldSkills Competition.
British Columbia will be well-represented in three categories: meet Daisy Liang Fashion Technology; Brian Everts Aircraft Maintenance; and Caitlin Mayo Baking. The three competitors were selected as a part of Team Canada at the 2008 Canadian Skills Competitions held in Calgary, Alberta.

2009 Skills Canada Medalists' Recognition Luncheon
June 30, 2009
Skills Canada BC hosted a recognition luncheon for TEAM BC competitors competed at the 2009 Nationals. The Minister of Advanced Education Dr. Moira Stilwell was on hand to recognize the competitor's achievements in the past year.

Nineteen B.C. secondary and post-secondary students won medals at the 15th Canadian Skills Competition in Charlottetown, PEI held from May 20-23, 2009. Students from B.C. put their skills to the test against the best from across the country.

Daisy Liang, 17, Team BC¹s Silver medalist in the Fashion Technology and Production competition at the 2008 Canadian Skills Competition will now be representing Canada at the 2009 WorldSkills hosted in Calgary, Alberta.
